Laser engraving onto metal can yield some impressive results, though not an easy process.

Since the laser isn't cutting into the metal, we engrave a coating that's applied to the metal.  This is either coated metal that we purchase (e.g., anodized aluminum), or we apply a coating that gets bonded to the metal.

Coated metal provides a very limited range of shading and a good level of detail.  For anodized aluminum, dark images on the graphic design turn the metal coating white.  For metals that we coat, the engraving shows up black when exposed to the laser.
