Amazingly, leather engraves beautifully with a high degree of detail. There are many types of leather available. We find that the best results are achieved when using light colored leather that has a very smooth finish. Leather is available in different pre-cut shapes as well as sections of hides. We cannot cut shapes out of hides using the laser, but the shapes can be cut out by hand after engraving. Unless instructed otherwise, we will apply leather oil to the finished product before shipping. Leather provides a wide range of shading (based on hide color) and a level of detail that's directly related to the smoothness of the finish. Leather is engraved on the front surface. Dark images on the graphic design turn the leather shades of brown when engraved.
