Can you engrave Metal?

The simple answer is no, but we can engrave onto metal. This is done by coating the metal with a material that turns black and bonds to the metal when exposed to the laser. Certain coated metals like our anodized aluminum tags are specially made for engraving.

Can you engrave wine glasses?

Not at present. Engraving cylindrical shapes requires a special attachment that rotates the object while engraving. Demand has not warranted our investment in this attachment, but if you're considering a large volume of engraving, please contact us and we will consider the feasability of purchasing at that time.

If I give you a piece of wood, could you engrave on it?

It depends upon the dimensions and quality of the wood.
Presently, we can engrave items that are up to 12"x24" and 6" thick. The quality of the wood is the critical factor. Aside from needing a flat surface, the results of engraving would depend upon the type of wood, the grain and moisture content. We would need two pieces, a sample for experimenting and one for final engraving.

If I give you a piece of marble, could you engrave on it?

Highly doubtful. When engraving marble, we remove the polished surface layer and expose the material underneath. We've experimented with many samples and have found only Absolute Black polished granite or marble to reveal white when engraved. Even speckled black granite compromises the quality of the result by exposing speckles.

Can you laser cut all materials that you engrave on?

No. Only Acrylic (up to 3/8" thick), Plastic (up to 1/8" thick) and Wood (up to 3/16" thick).

If I give you a photograph, can you remove the background prior to engraving?

Typically yes. As long as there's a clear distinction between the subject and the background, the results are amazing. In cases where that distinction is not clear (e.g., someone with dark hair in front of a dark background) we will recommend using a vignette effect to emphasize the subject.

Can you engrave in color?

No. Our engraving is a "black & white" type process. One color is the base color of the product and the other color is exposed/created during the engraving process. It is possible to paint color into certail materials like wood. Please contact us for further information.

Can you engrave pictures off the internet?

Yes, but the results will be based on the quality of the picture. Typically, internet image are less than 100 dots-per-inch which does not render sharp results when engraved. We recommend emailing us the picture (or web site address) and let us evaluate the quality.

I had an acrylic clock made for me and I need to change the time, how do I do that?

Push the clock from behind using your index finger. There's a stem that pulls out allowing you to change the time. When pushing the clock back into the acrylic, look from the front for a tiny bump near the bottom of the hole cut in the acrylic. Seat the clock over that bump and then push in at the top.
